Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): Three terrorists and a woman have been killed in an ongoing encounter at Batamaloo in Srinagar on Thursday, officials said.
One CRPF officer was also injured during the encounter.
The firefight between terrorists and security forces took place after security forces laid a cordon and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area.
As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where terrorists were hiding they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter.
"One unidentified terrorist killed in an encounter at Batamaloo area of Srinagar. The police and the CRPF are in search of other terrorists too," police said.

Meanwhile, IG CRPF Charu Sinha while briefing the media said that the CRPF is observing the situation after which a community outreach strategy will be made.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh on Thursday claimed said that 177 militants have been killed this year in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference at Srinagar, DGP said that 165 militants have been killed in Kashmir and 12 in Jammu region. Among 177, 22 were foreign militants who were killed this year. 20 militants who had joined this year were brought back into the mainstream.
Speaking about Batamaloo gunfight DGP said that three militants, the woman was killed and a deputy commandant of CRPF was critically injured. It's painful to see when a civilian is killed during cross-firing. Pakistan is desperate to disturb peace in J&K UT.

IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar while answering a question regarding the death of Sopore youth said that when he was taken to spot where he had hidden grenades and other material took advantage of darkness and managed to escape. We have initiated an enquiry in this incident.
Answering another question regarding Mobile internet gag in Sopore, IGP said that we snap mobile internet according to the situation, we don't want militants to take advantage of mobile Internet. Today we didn't snap Internet in Srinagar amid gunfight as we knew we can handle the situation.
Earlier on August 30, three local militants associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit and an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police were killed in an encounter between militants and security forces in Srinagar outskirts on Sunday after the ultras fired on a 'Naka' party of the forces on the outskirts of the city.
The bike-borne youth fired and tried to snatch the gun from security force personnel at the Naka, but due to alertness of the security personnel their attempts failed and they were chased down into a locality where they hid in a local house.
Similarly, an unidentified militant was killed and an army officer was injured in an encounter with militants in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Yedipora in Pattan area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir following specific information about the presence of militants.
The operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated.
