Dehradun (Uttarakhand): In a video from Uttarakhand, a huge chunk of a hill can be seen falling off on the Dehradun-Mussoorie road blocking traffic for hours on Saturday.
The Public Works Department has swung into action and deployed JCB machine as well as Pokland machine to clear debris from the road and to open it to traffic.
The traffic, in the meantime, has been diverted to Hathipaon Road.
The Dehradun-Mussoorie road near Galoli powerhouse is being widened by the state government to run Volvo buses along the route, and a major tragedy was averted when the contractor involved in the road-widening project restricted traffic movement on the road just hours before the accident took place on Saturday.
"We usually work between 10 pm and 6 am so that we don't cause inconvenience to anyone. When we got to know that there was debris falling off the hill in the morning we decided to stop traffic on that stretch of the road. After some time a huge boulder from the hill fell on the road, " said contractor Mohan Melvan.
