Hardoi: The Uttar Pradesh police has attached illegal properties worth Rs 64 crores of gangsters involved in illegal liquor and mining operations on Thursday. Acting under the relevant provisions of the Gangster Act, the state police have also posted a 'notice' on all the alleged illegal properties as per the legal procedure. The police seized the properties of the 'mafias' after Chief Minister Yogi-Adityanath's order.
The illegal ration and ration suppliers in the state were under the radar of the policemen for quite some time.
In a major crackdown on the mafia, UP Police had launched a 15-day campaign to identify criminals who acquire properties by indulging in such crimes.
Anurag Vats, Hardoi SP, said, "We have seized illegal properties on the orders of top police brass and initiated strict action. We have confiscated properties of liquor and mining mafia worth Rs 64 crore. This is to send a strong message to the criminals that we will continue to crack down on them for their illegal properties. The police teams have been put on high alert and such operations would continue.

Properties of a criminal Vikas Gupta worth Rs 30 crore, an alleged liquor mafia, has been confiscated in Beniganj under Kotwali Police station limits. In another jolt, assets of mining mafias Bajendra and Sunil Gupta worth Rs 34 crores have also been seized by the policemen. A case has been registered and a further investigation is underway.
Earlier, a case of hoarding and black-marketing was filed against three accused by the state police under the Gangster Act. The case is pending in a local magistrate court for the hearing.
The development comes after the UP Police recently confiscated properties of 27 criminals including that of Member of Legislative Council (MLC) from Auraiya.
