New Delhi: In a fresh affidavit filed before the Supreme court on Wednesday regarding Hathras incident, the Uttar Pradesh government has asked the court to direct CBI to submit a status report on the alleged rape and murder case, in every 15 days.

In its last hearing the apex court had directed the State to file an affidavit detailing the case and actions it took. The Uttar Pradesh government has provided three-layered security to the victim's family, deployed women police officers for the safety of female members of the family and installed CCTV surveillance.

The State's response was sought by the court on the basis of pleas seeking an independent investigation into the incident.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Allahabad High Court observed that the late-night cremation of the Hathras woman who died after alleged gang-raped was a violation of human rights.

The Lucknow bench of the high court also directed the State government to lay down modalities for cremation in Hathras-like situations.

The 19-year-old dalit woman died at a Delhi hospital a fortnight after she was allegedly raped by four men from her village in Hathras district on September 14.

She was cremated in the middle of the night in her village. Family members claimed that the cremation, which took place well past midnight, was held without their consent and they were not allowed to bring home the body.

The hurried cremation fuelled outrage over the incident and the high court took cognizance of it.
