New Delhi: The national security analyst Nitin Gokhle asserted that India's Defence sector has witnessed several achievements. However, the past five years also had some factors which have raised controversies.
National security analyst Nitin Gokhle Speaking to ETV Bharat, Gokhale said, "The last five years witnessed several breakthroughs in the defence sector".He said that no major reforms in integration took place. People expected this government to take a call on Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), but nothing happened.The security analyst said, "In fact, the BJP Government had earlier initiated the process for the creation of CDS. The army and navy had reportedly supported the move but it was opposed by the Indian air force".Gokhale said that the percentage of the defence budget of the GDP has gone down.He added: "Defence budget allocation has been increased but defence percentage of the GDP has gone down"."This Government has revised the defence procurement policy making it more industry-friendly. The period has also witnessed a more integrated approach to the national defence with space security, cybersecurity and special forces," analysed Gokhale.He said that the creation of the national defence priority advisory body under the NSA was also an achievement."The Government has also speed up policies for procuring critical equipment like fighter aircraft, submarines etc," said Gokhale.
