New Delhi: Mohammed Shoaib, the president of the Rihai Manch NGO, was put under house arrest before protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act began. One month has passed since the detention and arrest of lawyer Mohammad Shoaib by Uttar Pradesh police for allegedly participating in protests in Lucknow.
The charge of inciting violence against me is absolutely false, he said speaking to the ETV Bharat reporter.
We continue to speak against the wrong policies of the government as opposition because of which we are targeted, he added.
Mohammad Shoaib said that the government repeatedly misused Section 144.
We have the right to speak against the wrong policies of the government and we have got this right from the constitution but the present government is misusing section 144 to deprive it of this right, he said.
Women have started the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act at the historic Ghanta Ghar in Lucknow and now we hope that this government will withdraw this law, he added.
The National Human Rights Commission is now investigating the cases of violence in Uttar Pradesh with the efforts of Rihai Manch and other NGOs in which Muslims and other backward classes were killed in the state other NGOs.
