Agartala: An instance of the already abolished Sati practice was witnessed in Tripura when Shefali was not able to bear the pain of her husband's demise and could not hold herself back. She attempted suicide by jumping into her husband's pyre in Tripura on Saturday but was saved with the efforts of her relatives.
Shefali's husband Uttam Prasamani (33) was reportedly found hanging in his bedroom in Uwangcherra area under Puran (Old) Rajbari police station limits.
Prasamani was among the 10,323 ill-fated teachers of Tripura who had lost their jobs followed by a Supreme Court order.
Uttam Prasamani took loans from banks and private financers after losing his job but was unable to clear his dues. He was unable to tackle the pressure from the money lenders, prompting him to take such a drastic step.
Agonised Shefali blamed the money lenders for mounting pressure on her husband for the loans. Remaining inconsolable, she claimed that Uttam was trying to recover from his mental illness after he lost his job.

Uttam Prasamani's father told reporters that his son was frustrated because he was not able to repay his loans.
"My son had a job but he lost it. He was struggling to make his ends meet and he had taken a huge debt. He took loans from banks and private financers also pressurised him to return the money," he added.

The newly formed Joint Movement Committee of 10,323 teachers were not ready to write the exams for 9,000 posts created very recently and after the judgment of the Supreme Court, age relaxations were granted for the 10,323 retrenched teachers.
