1. COVID-19: AIIMS to start clinical trial of indigenous vaccine Covaxin from Monday

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Ethics Committee on Saturday gave its approval for conducting the human clinical trial of the indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccine candidate Covaxin. Dr Sanjay Rai, Professor at the Centre for Community Medicine at AIIMS told a news agency that the hospital will start enrolling healthy individuals from Monday onwards.

2. Assam Flood: Death toll reaches 105 as 3 more die, 27.64 lakh people affected

The flood situation in Assam remains grim as the flood claimed three more lives on Saturday, taking the death toll to 105, including 26 in landslides. Around 27.64 lakh people are affected and almost all the rivers have crossed the danger mark. Ninety animals have also died in Kaziranga National Park. Meanwhile, authorities have set up 649 relief camps and distribution centres across 21 districts, where 47,465 displaced people are taking shelter currently.

Former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot on Saturday appealed to all Indians to join the efforts in helping support those affected due to the floods in Assam and Bihar. Pilot's appeal comes amid the raging political firestorm in Rajasthan where he declared open rebellion against the Ashok Gehlot government. Pilot was sacked as deputy chief minister and the state Congress chief earlier this week.

Sanjay Jain who was earlier arrested by the Special operation group of Rajasthan police in connection with a viral audio recording about horse-trading of legislators to topple the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in Rajasthan has been sent to four-day police custody by a local court.

5. Ram Mandir in Ayodhya to be 161-feet tall with 5 domes

In a two-hour-long meeting of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust presided over by Mahant Nritya Gopal, it was decided that the Ram temple will be 161 feet high with five domes. The overall look and design of the Ram temple were also discussed in the meeting. PM Narendra Modi is expected to do Bhoomi Pujan for the temple in Ayodhya on August 3 or 5.

6. Video of man raising slogan against Nepal PM, is a resident of Varanasi & received Rs 1,000 for act: UP Police

A video of 'Nepali man' that has been circulating on the various social media platforms is actually a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi and had received Rs 1,000 for the insane act. Varanasi Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Amit Pathak said that a total of six arrested people have been arrested in the case.

7. Five arrested after villagers tie up electricity dept officials in Telangana

Five persons were arrested for allegedly tying two electricity department officials to a pole after the officials visited the village to collect payment of electricity bills. The incident took place in Muslapur village of Alladurgam in Telangana.

8. Dead body of COVID-19 suspected man taken to crematorium on pushcart by his widow in Karnataka

In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman used a pushcart to take the body of her dead husband to the crematorium after she allegedly did not receive any help from relatives who suspected him to have died of COVID.

9. One cop dead, three others injured as UP police vehicle overturns in Jhansi

One police personnel lost his life and three personnel were severely injured after a vehicle of Kanpur police overturned in Jhansi on Saturday. The accident occurred because one of the tyres of the vehicle, which had six occupants, got punctured. The injured were taken to a hospital in Jhansi for treatment, where one of the personnel passed away.

The 25-year-old Pragya Debnath aka Ayesha Jannat Mohona hails from Hooghly in West Bengal and was arrested by the Bangladesh Police's Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Branch on Friday from Sadarghat in Dhaka. When Pragya's father got this news, he got shocked and said that he did not even know that her daughter had joined the JMB militant group.
