1. CBI team reaches Hathras, victim's brother taken to incident site
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team probing into the alleged gang-rape and murder of a Dalit woman in Hathras, will reportedly visit the victim's village on Tuesday. The CBI team is expected to visit the victim's house, and also question family members and other villagers.
2. BJP leaders detained for attempting to enter Siddhivinayak temple
BJP leader Prasad Lad along with other party workers has been detained by the police during a protest after they attempted to enter Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai on Tuesday. Protesters tried to enter the temple amidst heavy police deployment and barricading. BJP has organised demonstrations across Maharashtra against the state government on Tuesday, demanding re-opening of all temples for devotees.
3. Thackeray, Koshyari exchange letters on meaning of secularism
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has informed Governor BS Koshyari that a decision on reopening places of religious worship will be taken after careful consideration of the COVID-19 situation in the state. Responding to a letter by Koshyari a day earlier, Thackeray on Tuesday wrote to the Governor, saying that the state government will consider his request to reopen these places.

Police on Monday recorded the arrest of eight students of a government polytechnic institute for allegedly blackmailing and raping a minor college mate. The district administration said it may invoke the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against the accused.

Karnataka Police has lodged an FIR against actor Kangana Ranaut over her tweet against farmers who were protesting against the controversial farm laws passed by the government. A court in Karnataka's Tumkuru on October 9 directed the state police to register an FIR against Ranaut on her recent tweet allegedly targeting farmers protesting against the farm laws.
6. GST Council meet ends without consensus on compensating states
The stalemate overcompensating states for the shortfall in GST collections continued on Monday with a meeting of the GST Council ending without reaching any consensus on the issue. The panel, which is the highest decision-making body on indirect taxes, for the second time in a week, failed to reach a consensus on the Centre's proposal of states borrowing against future GST collections to make up for the shortfall.
