Hyderabad: Two men from the northeast were denied entry into a supermarket to purchase essentials, amid the ongoing lockdown, on April 8 in what appears to be a case of racial attack.

According to reports, two security guards and store manager were taken into custody for denying permission for the duo from Manipur.

Manipur duo explain the incident

In a video, they are seen questioning the watchman to which the security guard responds "You are not allowed to enter the store. Aren't you aware of the situation?" They were reportedly asked to display ID cards to prove they are citizens of India.

Similar incidents of racial attack were reported amid the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, when a 25-year-old girl from Manipur alleged that a man spat on her and called her 'corona' in the Vijayanagar area of North-west Delhi.

Earlier, the Mumbai police had registered a case against an unidentified bike-borne man who allegedly racially abused a woman hailing from Manipur by spitting on her.

The northeastern populace has been at the receiving end of unscrupulous racism in the country.
