Teen sexually assaulted at Delhi's shelter home, minor held

Delhi Police have arrested a 17-year-old minor for allegedly raping and assaulting a minor at a correction home. The accused has been booked under IPC and POSCO sections and an investigation is underway.

New Delhi: A 17-year-old was apprehended by police on Thursday for allegedly raping and assaulting a 15-year-old boy at a correction home in northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar. Police said a case under IPC Section 377 (unnatural offences) has been registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station after the incident came to light.

Cops said that the accused and the victim were lodged separately at the home. The accused was lodged there in connection with a murder case, while the victim was lodged in connection with cases of theft and robbery.

The matter came to light when the victim's health deteriorated and he approached the authorities of the correction home. On Thursday, the boy narrated his ordeal before the welfare officers and other staff members of the home after which they informed the police.

According to the complaint, the victim was allegedly assaulted when he was going to the toilet and was threatened with a sharp object. The victim also told police that the accused had threatened him of stabbing him to death if he spoke to anyone about it.

"There are complaints that the accused used to bully and assault other inmates at the home and threatened them. We have registered a case and an investigation is underway," said the cops.

The teenager has been booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code(IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO). Authorities at the correction home have started counselling the victim to ensure that such incidents don't repeat in the near future.
