Mehsana: Gujarat-based teacher, who had engraved 'Taj Mahal' on chalk in the loving memory of his wife a few years ago, is now creating a buzz with his fantastic artistic sculptures. Nileshbhai Rami is a famous miniature artist in Mehsana, thanks to his incredible artistic skills.
Rami has been doing his miniature art for quite some time now and engraves various fine piece of art on chalk. Having created at least 130 artistic and innovative chalk sculptures, the artist has embraced this profession as his passion.
An art creator, Nileshbhai has proved that a dedicated artist doesn't need expensive craft materials. He is a firm believer that hobby and passion are enough to craft architectural models.
The artist has carved various forms of wildlife, idols of gods and goddesses and historic persons, showing his creativity. He uses a pin to engrave on chalk and uses fevicol to make it long-lasting.

What inspired him?
Talking about how he got inspired to take up this art, Rami said, "Once I was watching a television programme in which they were teaching how to make Lord Ganesha on a bar of soap. That attracted me and I decided to create similar pieces of art on chalk. My first piece of art was of Lord Ganesha."
He went on to add, "My daughter also encouraged me and asked me to make toys for her using chalks. Plus, the end product value of chalk art is also good. I have started enjoying my work. Though it takes more time and patience, it gives me satisfaction. Chalk is readily available which is an added factor too."
Attributing travelling to have enhanced his passion, the teacher-turned artist said, "I love travelling to distant places. I travel to various places and engrave various scenic beauties on chalk. I carve art pieces of places which pleases me."
Students appreciate my art
"My students have been my support. I also notch fairy tale characters as they demand it. I have also sculpted Statue of Unity, Lord Shiva, Shiva Lingam, Laughing Buddha and of mother and child too. I also teach the chalk art to my kids and school children. They are very keen to learn new things," said the artist, adding that at times he also uses small pieces of chalk to give perfection to my figurines.
