Hailing from Marathuru village of Karnataka's Shimoga district, the 80-year-old grandmother is quite a celebrity, not only in her home town but beyond.
Doddi has been invited to showcase her talent on several platforms, in different states and cities including Bangalore, Mangalore, Bidar, Mysore, Kalaburagi, and Mumbai, among others, and has been recognised for her immense talent.
With the octogenarian being a favourite when it comes to cultural occasions and functions: such as marriages, childbirths, and other family functions, the organisers make special arrangements for her arrival at the venue and pick her up themselves from her house. Several genres and heads of Kannada folk songs including Sobane Pada, Kattopada, Lavani, Hanthi Pada, have been memorised by the passionate singer.

Doddi has also been using her art to send out socially relevant messages, such as spreading awareness about superstition, emphasising on the importance of education, particularly female education, among other things.
Recognising her contribution to the otherwise dying art form, several arts-based organisations, including the state's folk culture department has rewarded her with the prestigious Thayavva Award.

Tharabayi doddi is basically from Marathuru village of Chittur thalluq Kalburgi district. She is in to folk from several years and still continuing in her old age too.

Many associations and organizations have honored them. Even the Folk culture department had rewarded her with Thayavva award. But the state governent still did not recognised her talent.

ಈ ಅಜ್ಜಿಗೆ ಬರೋಬ್ಬರಿ 80 ವರ್ಷ. ಶಾಲೆಯ ಹಿಂದೆ-ಮುಂದೆಯೂ ಸುಳಿಯದ ಮಹಾತಾಯಿಗೆ ಸಂಗೀತ ಶಾರದೆಯ ಅಪ್ಪಟ ಶಿಷ್ಯೆ. ನೀರು ಕುಡಿದಷ್ಟೇ ಸಲೀಸಾಗಿ ಜಾನಪದ ಪದಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಹಾಡ್ತಾರೆ. ಅಂತೆಯೇ ಜಾನಪದ ಭಂಡಾರವೆಂದು ಫೇಮಸ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹಾಗಿದ್ರೆ ಯಾರು ಈ ಝಾನಪದ ಕೋಗಿಲೆ ಅಂತೀರಾ... ಜಸ್ಟ್ ಹ್ಯಾವ್ ಅ ಲುಕ್...
ಹೀಗೆ ಜಾನಪದಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅಜ್ಜಿಯ ಹೆಸರು ತಾರಾಬಾಯಿ ದೊಡ್ಡಿ. ಕಲಬುರಗಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಚಿತ್ತಾಪುರ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಮರತೂರು ಗ್ರಾಮದ ತಾರಾಬಾಬಿ ನೀರು ಕುಡಿದಷ್ಟೇ ಸಲೀಸಾಗಿ ಪದಗಳನ್ನ ಕಟ್ತಾರೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಅವು ಜನರ ಮನಮುಟ್ಟುವ ಹಾಗೆ ತಾವೇ ಕಂಠದಾನ ಕೂಡ ಮಾಡ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಲವು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಜಾನಪದ ಸಂಗೀತದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಳಗಿರುವ ಇವರು ಸದ್ಯ ಈ ಇಳಿವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ತಮ್ಮ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಹಾಡುಗಾರಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಫುಲ್ ಫೇಮಸ್ ಆಗಿರುವ ಇವರ ಕಂಠ, ಚಿತ್ತಾಪೂರ ತಾಲೂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುವ ಬಹುಪಾಲು ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದೇ ಇರುತ್ತೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಆಯೋಜಕರು ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದು ಅಜ್ಜಿಯನ್ನ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ತಾರೆ. ಮದುವೆ, ಮುಂಜಿ, ಸೋಬಾನ್ ಪದ, ಕುಟ್ಟೋ ಪದ, ಲಾವಣಿ, ಹಂತಿಪದಗಳು ಅಜ್ಜಿಯ ನಾಲಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಚ್ಚಾದಂತಾಗಿವೆ. ಅಷ್ಟೇಅಲ್ಲ ಕ್ಷಣಾರ್ಧದಲ್ಲೇ ಪದ ಜೊಡಿಸಿ ಹಾಡುವ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವೂ ಇವರಿಗೆ ಗಿಟ್ಟಿಸಿದೆ.
ಇನ್ನು ಈ ಅಜ್ಜಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಹಾಡಿನ ಮೂಲಕವೇ ಮೂಢನಂಬಿಕೆಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಸ್ತಾರೆ. ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷರತೆಯ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಸಾರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದೇ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಹಾಡು ಕಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇನ್ನು ಈ ಅಜ್ಜಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಮಂಗಳೂರು, ಮೈಸೂರು, ಬೀದರ್, ಕಲಬುರಗಿ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಏಕೆ, ಮಂಬೈನಲ್ಲೂ ಹಾಡಿ ಸೈ ಎನಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರ ಕಂಠಕ್ಕೆ ಮನಸೋತು ಹಲವು ಸಂಘ-ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ ನೀಡಿವೆ. ಆದ್ರೆ ಜನಪದ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಇಲಾಖೆ ಇವರಿಗೆ ತಾಯವ್ವ ಪ್ರಶ್ತಿ ನೀಡಿದ್ರೆ, ರಾಜ್ಯ ಸರ್ಕಾರ ಈವರೆಗೆ ಈ ಸಾಧಕಿಯನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಫಲವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಮೇಕೆ ತಿನ್ನದ ಸೊಪ್ಪಿಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನೊ ಹಾಗೆ ಈ ಅಜ್ಜಿ ಹಾಡದ ಜನಪದ ಹಾಡಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಂತಹ ಜಾನಪದ ಕೋಗಿಲೆಯನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸದ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಕ್ರಮ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಖಂನೀಯ. ಸದ್ದಿಲ್ಲದೇ ಸಂಗೀತ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಕಲಾವಿದೆಗೆ ಮಾಶಾಸನ ಹಾಗೂ ಸೂಕ್ತ ಸನ್ಮಾನ ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆನ್ನುವುದು ಕಲಾಪ್ರೇಮಿಗಳ ಒತ್ತಾಸೆ.
