Hyderabad: With a view to make Hyderabad a more safe place to live in, the IT, Pharma and other service sectors are expanding the Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR) as a central hub. The authorities of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Authority (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) have stepped up its efforts according to the directives of the Home Minister KTR to set up a large-scale surveillance system in these areas.
Telangana's IT Minister KT Rama Rao recently chaired a high-level meeting and said that GHMC and HMDA should be transformed into a city with full security.
Municipal Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar has instructed the zonal commissioners and other department heads to commence the work of setting up a full-fledged surveillance system. The responsibilities have been allocated to different departments according to the areas and Kumar has ordered that the project must be completed within 30 days. HMDA has also ordered the immediate installation of CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the Outer Ring Road.
Rama Rao clarified that areas not under the purview of the surveillance eye should be identified and the cameras should be fixed on a war footing. Following this, Chief Secretary of the Municipal Department has ordered that the GHMC, HMDA authorities should start action immediately. District Collectors under the ORR vicinity and Commissioners of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda, Municipalities, GHMC, Commissioners of Hyderabad Metro Rail Corporation (HMRL), South Central Railway, TSRTC, State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) Corporation, Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (GGCL), Telangana State Southern Power Division Corporation Limited, Departments of Marketing, Irrigation and other departments were guided accordingly.

Positioning & Installation of CCTV camera
Instructions have been given by GHMC and HMDA to identify slums, primary local dispensaries, health centres, government hospitals, metro stations, MMTS railway stations, bus depots, spiritual centres, parks and install CCTV cameras. The surveillance system will also be set up in IT Parks, IT Companies, garbage Disposal Centers, refugee Camps, orphanages, welfare Hostels, PG Hostels, petrol Bunks Markets, Rythu Bazaars, retail Stores, street Vending Zones, colony Level Electricity offices.
The Municipal Administration Chief Secretary, Arvind Kumar instructed the respective administrative wings that building and construction permissions under Telangana State Building Permission Approval and Self Certification System (TS-bPASS) are required to set up the security cameras. The order is mandatory even for the constructions done on more than 600 sq yds, township Layouts, apartment complexes and shops
Kumar has also directed the Police Department to collect the details of the surveillance system being adapted by transport agencies such as Ola, Uber etc., and also ordered them to set up a regular monitoring system.
