New Delhi: The Supreme Court today has slammed the central government for asking a break regarding the process of NRC. The court said that the Home Ministry was "bent on not carrying out the procedure."

Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi expressed his disappointment and said that the Ministry of Home Affairs wanted to destroy the whole process of NCR and the Central government was not cooperating by giving one excuse or the other.

The court has also directed the Election Commission to prepare a report on how it will handle NRC process in the context of upcoming General elections.

Talking to ETV Bharat, Abhijit Sharma who is the petitioner in the matter said that the CJI wants the process to meet its deadline of July and hence expressed his disappointment with the government.

The matter will now be heard in the first week of March.
