New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Central government to file its affidavit on a special petition filed by the AIADMK ruled Tamil Nadu government seeking direction to the Centre to implement 50 per cent reservation for OBCs in state-surrendered All India Quota (AIQ) seats in UG, PG medical and dental admissions.
Tamil Nadu Additional Advocate General Balaji Srinivasan had moved the plea last week citing the recent order of Madras High Court that directed the centre to form a committee to ensure OBC reservations and to fix OBC quota issues as well.

"The MHC has ruled that there is no impediment, constitutional or legal to extend the reservation for OBCs in the state acquired medical and dental seats. As it asked the centre to constitute a committee to ensure the reservation and the quota issues within the next academic year. Since the students are affected, the centre should implement the 50% reservation for OBCs in this academic year," the TN AAG argued.
After hearing the matter the SC issued notice to centre and tagged petitioner with other petitioners including the DMK, a caveator in this case said.
The matter further has been postponed to August 28.
