Srinagar-Jammu highway closed for maintenance

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded after the key Jammu - Srinagar National Highway was closed for maintenance work.

Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu national highway was closed on Friday for maintenance work, officials said. According to a traffic advisory, no vehicular movement would be allowed from either side on Srinagar-Jammu national highway. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the highway.

The traffic police advised people to undertake journeys on the highway only after confirming the status of the road from their respective traffic control units.

The highway is the main road link connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country. The Mughal road, a second road connecting the Kashmir Valley with the Jammu region, has also been closed for a month due to heavy snowfall.
