Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh): A specially-abled elderly man from Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad on Sunday reached a blood donation camp in the district to donate blood on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day.
Anil Kumar, a retired Railway employee, lost his left leg in an accident while he was on duty a few years ago.
But despite being specially-abled he did not stop from helping others. This is the third time Kumar has donated blood since the accident.
"I keep donating blood every now and then... I feel that people should donate blood as you never know who might need it. People lose lives over lack of availability of blood," Kumar told ETV Bharat.
Kumar's gesture holds immense significance given the paucity of blood at blood banks amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has been appealing to voluntary organisations, NGOs and people at large time and again to come forward and donate blood to maintain ample stocks to meet any eventuality in the country.
This year, World Blood Donor Day is focused on the theme ‘safe blood saves lives’ and calls for action to provide adequate resources and put in place systems and infrastructures to increase blood collection from voluntary, non-remunerated donors, to provide quality donor care and to set up systems for the oversight and surveillance on the whole chain of blood transfusion.
