Shaheen Bagh: Protestors demand revocation of CAA

The protestors at Shaheen Bagh have demanded to repeal CAA stating it to be a threat to the secular fabric of the Constitution. Agitators have said that they will end the protest only when the government will revoke the law.

New Delhi: The protesters at Shaheen Bagh have demanded revocation of CAA and have said that only the repealing of the law can end the protest.

Shaheen Bagh has been witnessing anti-CAA and NRC protests from 15th December and the agitation has entered into it's third month. Turning out to be a major issue during the Delhi Assembly elections, the protest is attracting huge attention from across the nation.

Protesters,especially women have claimed that they won't move from the spot unless the Government revokes the law. Due to the protest at Shaheen Bagh, road connecting Delhi to Noida has been disrupted due to which the locals are facing many problems. People of Delhi are facing issues due to frequent traffic jams in the morning and evening.

According to the CAA members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have come from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014 and facing religious persecution there will not be treated as illegal immigrants but will be given Indian citizenship. The law excludes Muslims.

Those opposing the law contend that it discriminates on the basis of religion and violates the Constitution. They also allege that the CAA along with the NRC is intended to target the Muslim community in India.

However, the central government has dismissed the allegations, maintaining that the law is intended to give citizenship to persecuted people from the three neighboring countries and not to take away citizenship from anyone.
