Shah tests negative for COVID-19, discharged from AIIMS

Home Minister Amit Shah tested negative for the coronavirus and has been discharged from AIIMS. He was admitted to the hospital for post-COVID-care after he complained of fatigue and body pain.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who was admitted to the AIIMS on August 18 for post-COVID care, was discharged on Monday morning, sources said.

The AIIMS had said in a statement on Saturday that 'he has recovered and is likely to be discharged in a short time'. Shah was admitted to AIIMS after he complained of fatigue and body pain.

"Amit Shah, Honourable Home Minister has been complaining of fatigue and body aches for last 3-4 days. He has tested negative for COVID-19," the hospital statement had said.

It stated further, "He has been admitted to AIIMS for post COVID care. He is comfortable and is continuing his work from the hospital."

On August 2, Shah, 55, had said on Twitter that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He had undergone treatment at Medanta Hospital and was discharged after he tested negative for the disease.

"Today my corona test report has come negative. I thank God and at the moment I express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have blessed me and my family by wishing me well. Will stay in home isolation for a few more days on the advice of doctors," the BJP leader had said in a tweet.

"I also thank all the doctors and paramedical staff of Medanta Hospital who helped me in fighting Corona infection and who are treating me," he had added.

Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel has tested positive for coronavirus who recently completed a year in office. Though Kateel is asymptomatic, he has been admitted to a hospital following his doctor's advice.

“I underwent a Covid-19 test and have tested positive. Despite being asymptomatic, I am getting admitted to a hospital on medical advice. I hope to recover at the earliest with your wishes and blessings. I request everyone who came in touch with me to be careful,” he tweeted.

In the last few weeks, several top political leaders, including chief ministers and Union ministers, have tested for the highly contagious disease. Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former president Pranab Mukherjee are among those who tested positive for COVID in the last two months
