SC seeks govt response on transporting Nepalis back to Nepal

The Supreme Court bench led by Justice NV Ramana directed the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to get instructions from the government on sending the Nepali citizens back to their country in the wake of Nepal's Supreme Court order.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to get instructions from the government on sending the Nepali citizens back to their country in the wake of Nepal's Supreme Court order.

The bench led by Justice NV Ramana said that Nepal's Supreme Court has asked their government to take back all the migrants. The government has allowed them to return and the state High court has taken up the issue.

Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves appearing on behalf of the Nepalis said that the HC had said that they can mot ask the centre to send the Nepalis back and the centre is not allowing 900 workers on the Indian side of the border.

The Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that there is a lockdown in Nepal and petitioners should approach Home Ministry for this.

Reportedly, The court also asked Mehta to affirm the government of the situation and adjourned the matter to be heard on Tuesday.
