New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday pulled up the Centre for not filling an affidavit clarifying its stand on the loan moratorium issue despite being asked by the court several times.
The apex court said that the matter has been pending since months, it however directed Centre to put forward its stand now within a week.
According to the reports, the next hearing has been scheduled on 1 September. The bench led by Justice Ashok Bhushan was hearing a plea seeking waiver of interests on loan during the moratorium period amid the COVID pandemic.

Sources said, the judges observed that the Centre is hiding behind the RBI when it itself has the power to decide on the issue under the Disaster Management Act. In earlier hearing as well the apex court had observed that Centre can not say it is helpless on this issue.
SG Tushar Mehta, however said that it can not have a different stand than the RBI as they work in coordination. "The problem was created because of lockdown. It gave petitioners three weeks of time to file additional documents," the bench added.
