New Delhi: The Supreme Court judges today, for the first time after lockdown, sat in their courtrooms.

During a hearing of a case, Justice L. Nageswara Rao also informed that from the next week, the judges will be sitting in their courtrooms instead of their residence/chambers.

He said that its a pilot project and the advocates need not come to the courtrooms and they can argue from their chambers like they are doing presently.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appreciated the move and said that this will ensure that coronavirus infection doesn't spread.

Since the lockdown, the Supreme Court, has been working from home except for a few departments and employees who were coming on a rotational basis. The hearings have been going on through video conferencing and only extremely urgent matters are being heard as of now.

If the full strength of judges resume their work and start sitting in the courtrooms, there is a possibility that all kinds of cases will be heard.
