New Delhi: The Supreme court has issued notice to its Secretary-General and the centre on a plea filed by Uttar Pradesh's District judges against their exclusion by the Supreme Court's Collegium for elevation in Allahabad High Court.

The petition filed through Advocate on record, Aruna Gupta, states that though their names were recommended by the High Court collegium, they were not considered by the Supreme Court collegium. It is further stated that only the District and Sessions Judge, Subhash Chand was considered for elevation.

Only one judge of the High Court collegium's recommendation was considered by SC's collegium for elevation. The district judges contend that they all are of the same batch of Uttar Pradesh Higher Judicial service.

Further, they have said that a large number of pending cases in HCs more require judges.
