The petition was filed by Swamy Dethathreya Sai Swaroop Nath, who is the President of the Kerala unit of the Akhil Bharath Hindu Mahasabha.
Swamy Dethathreya had also requested the apex court to ban the Purdah system, which requires Muslim women to cover their face.
The petition was an appeal against an order of the Kerala High Court which had rejected the plea.
