SC directs UGC, CBSE to ensure college admissions of compartment students

Supreme Court has directed CBSE to coordinate with UGC to ensure the college admissions of compartment students. The compartment examinations are scheduled to be held from September 22-29. The next hearing in the case is listed for September 24.

New Delhi: The Supreme court on Tuesday has directed CBSE to declare results of compartment exam as soon as possible and ensure by coordinating with UGC that students are not left out from admission in college.

The bench led by Justice AM Khanwilkar was hearing petitions seeking an extension of college admissions deadline as the compartment exams have been delayed this year given COVID-19 and results will be also be therefore declared late. The petitioners wanted the exam to be cancelled but as it was not done they sought extension of admission deadline.

They had argued that admissions got over in August which the UGC clarified on Tuesday that they have been reopened till October and if results are declared before that students would not miss the admission. However, students will be accommodated if the seats are vacant, submitted the UGC.

The apex court asked the UGC to not release the academic calendar till September 24. It also asked UGC to coordinate with CBSE and find out a solution so that 2 lakh students giving compartment exams are accommodated.

The compartment exams are scheduled to be held from September 22-29.

The court will hear the matter again on September 24 after CBSE and UGC will inform it on a joint decision for declaring results and admissions.
