Saravana Bhavan murder case: SC upholds convict's life imprisonment

The Supreme Court upheld the sentence awarded to the convict in Saravana Bhavan murder case. An employee was allegedly murdered by the owner of the restaurant chain in 2001.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court upheld the conviction and life imprisonment awarded to the owner of Saravana Bhavan restaurant chain, P Rajagopal in connection with the murder of an employee.

Rajagopal along with five others had been accused of murdering one of his employees in order to marry the employee’s wife in 2001.

They were earlier convicted by the Sessions Court for murder and had been sentenced to ten years imprisonment.

The Madras High Court had enhanced the sentence to life imprisonment leading to the appeal in the Supreme Court by the convicts. The Supreme Court had granted bail to the convicts in 2009.
