Biswanath (Assam): Chabindra Sarma, a Retd Flight Lieutenant, is among the lakhs of people who were not able to make it to the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list published on August 31.
The Retd Flight Lieutenant's family resides in Biswanath district of Assam.
Chabindra is the only member of his family who has been excluded from the final list of NRC irrespective of the same legacy data was presented before the officials for all the family members.
"I was called for the hearing thrice and submitted all the documents, but all went in vain. I am disappointed with after being excluded," Chabindra said.
He has served Indian Air Force for 38 years and retired in February 2018 from Tezpur Airport in Assam and has been awarded 'National Award' for his service by the President of India.
NRC requires every individual to prove that they or their ancestors entered the country before March 24, 1971.
The final list of NRC includes 3.11 crore people while more than 19 lakh have been left out. Those who have been excluded from the NRC have 120 days to appeal against it at Foreigners Tribunals.
