Chennai: In view of the increasing number of coronavirus cases in India and the less number of ventilators viable in hospitals, the department of Planning and Management in Thanjavur Sastra University has developed a ventilator on which four patients can be treated using a single ventilator.
To treat the patients of corona infection, oxygen ventilators are in high demand. But as there are not many ventilators it becomes difficult to treat them. In addition, only one person can breathe through a ventilator. This leaves many people with no access to treatment.
Professor of Nanotechnology Center, Prof. Swaminathan said that TSU developed new equipment for treating four people in a single ventilator.
''Using a ventilator, we have prepared a two-part separation tube in the form of Y to provide four people with artificial respiration. The tube is made of 3D printing. It can be easily created. We have successfully tested this device with a ventilator at Cauvery Hospital in Trichy.
"We are also ready to offer this technology to those who use 3D printing," said Prof. Swaminathan.
More than 19,000 people have died and above 400,000 people are infected with coronavirus worldwide.
