"Right now, only 609 people are in jail. We have released the rest. A total of 5,161 people, including stone-pelters, separatists and some political leaders were arrested preventively on August 5th," Minister of State for Home Affairs Kishan Reddy informed.
Replying to a query whether JKNC leader Farooq Abdullah will be released to attend the Parliament, Reddy added, "Time to time, some measures have to be taken in the interest of the nation. During emergency, 36 MPs were arrested to save the chair of one person, while we are working keeping law and order in mind."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the NRC exercise was monitored by the Supreme Court, and no religion has been targeted or isolated during the exercise.
"NRC has no such provision which says that no other religion will be taken under NRC. All citizens of India irrespective of religion will figure in the NRC list. The NRC is different from Citizenship Amendment Bill," he said.
He added that Citizenship Amendment Bill is required so that Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs, Christians and Parsis who have faced religious persecution in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh will be given citizenship of India.

Responding to a question from Congress MP Subbarami Reddy, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Section 144 was not imposed in the Kashmir Valley. "Only in a few places, we impose Section 144 from 8pm to 6 am. And there is not a need to gather post 8 pm," he said.
On internet restrictions, Shah said that the administration would take a decision on the restoration of services at the right time. "There are activities by Pakistan too in Kashmir region, so keeping security in mind, whenever the local authority deems it fit, a decision will be taken," he said.
"After August 5, not even a single person has died in police firing. People in this house were predicting bloodshed but I am happy to inform that no one has died in police firing. Incidents of stone pelting have declined."
Responding to Ghulam Nabi Azad's doubts on the facts, Shah said, "I challenge Ghulam Nabi Azad sahab to counter these facts which I presented, why don't you object to these figures on record? I am willing to discuss this issue for even an hour."

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will on Wednesday table papers in the Rajya Sabha related to Maharashtra, which has been waiting for its government formation ever since its October Assembly election. Besides the Surrogacy Bill, Transgender Protection Bill will also come up for consideration.
Shah will lay on the Table, a copy each of the following papers:
(a) Proclamation (G.S.R. No. 837(E)), issued by the President on the 12th November, 2019, under article 356 of the Constitution in relation to the State of Maharashtra, under clause (3) of the said article.
(b) Order (G.S.R. No. 838(E)), dated the 12th November, 2019, made by the President, under sub-clause (i) of clause (c) of the above Proclamation.
(c) Report of the Governor of Maharashtra, dated the 12th November, 2019 to the President, recommending the issue of the Proclamation.
Besides Shah, the other Ministers who will lay papers on the Table in the Upper House are Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas; Hardeep Singh Puri for Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs; G. Kishan Reddy and Nityanand Rai -- both for Ministry of Home Affairs.
