Moscow: The meeting between Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Chinese counterpart General Wei Fenghe has concluded, informed the Union Defence Minister's office.  

"The meeting between Raksha Mantri Shri @rajnathsingh and Chinese Defence Minister, General Wei Fenghe in Moscow is over. The meeting lasted for 2 hours and 20 minutes," tweeted the Union Defence Minister's office.  

India has earlier urged China to sincerely engage with it to restore peace and tranquillity in border areas through complete disengagement and de-escalation.  

Speaking at the weekly briefing on Thursday, MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said that the way ahead is negotiations both through diplomatic and military channels.

Chinese Defence Minister expresses confidence on military cooperation

A joint meeting of defence department heads of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Commonwealth of Independent States and Collective Security Treaty Organization countries held today near Moscow under Defence Minister of Russian Federation, General of Army Sergei Shoigu, said Defence Ministry, Russian Federation. 

Sergei Shoigu expressed confidence that international military cooperation will intensify after this meeting, and the results of the meeting will become a solid basis for deepening interaction between defence departments

India asks Persian Gulf countries to resolve their differences by dialogue

India on Friday said that it was deeply concerned about the situation in the Persian Gulf and called upon the countries in the region to resolve their differences by dialogue based on mutual respect.

A series of incidents in the Persian Gulf involving Iran, the US and the UAE in recent weeks have flared up tension in the region.

We are deeply concerned about the situation in the Persian Gulf, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in his address at a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Noting that India has vital interests and links of civilisation and culture with all states in the Gulf, Singh called upon the countries in the region to resolve differences by dialogue based on mutual respect.

Rajnath lauds Russian scientists for developing COVID-19 vaccine

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday congratulated the government and people of Russia for successfully controlling the coronavirus outbreak in the country and lauded its scientists for developing a vaccine against the deadly disease.

President Vladimir Putin last month announced that Russian scientists had developed the world's first vaccine against COVID-19, Sputnik-V. He said one of his daughters had already been vaccinated with it and that it works "quite effectively" and forms "stable immunity".

Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting, Singh said, "I congratulate the government and people of Russia for successfully managing the pandemic."

India concerned at Afghan security situation, will continue to support people, govt: Rajnath at SCO

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed his deep concern about the situation in the Persian Gulf Region while speaking at the SCO meeting in Moscow.

He said, “India has vital interests and links of civilisation and culture with all States in the Gulf. We call upon countries in the region – all of which are dear and friendly to India, to resolve differences by dialogue based on mutual respect, sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs of each other.”

Speaking about the situation in Afghanistan, Singh said, “Security situation in Afghanistan remains a concern. India will continue to support the efforts of the people and Government of Afghanistan for an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled inclusive peace process. The SCO Contact Group on Afghanistan is useful for exchanging notes among SCO Member States."

Further, he thanked the Russian Federation for organising the annual anti-terror exercise ‘Peace Mission’, which has contributed to building trust and sharing of experience among Defence Forces.

While speaking at the SCO meet in Moscow, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, "We need the institutional capacity to deal with both traditional and non-traditional threats-above all, terrorism, drug-trafficking and transnational crime. As you all are aware, India unequivocally condemns terrorism in all forms and manifestations, and condemns its proponents."

He further said, Reaffirm today that India is committed to the evolution of a global security architecture which will be open, transparent, inclusive, rules-based and anchored in international laws."

Rajnath visits Russian armed forces' main cathedral in Moscow

Moscow: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday visited the main cathedral of the Russian armed forces and the museum complex here ahead of a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Singh, who is here to attend the meeting of SCO defence ministers, began the third day of his visit to the country by paying a visit to the massive cathedral along with his delegation.

Raksha Mantri Shri @rajnathsingh visited the Main Cathedral of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Museum Complex in Moscow this morning, the Defence Ministry spokesperson said in a tweet.

It also posted two pictures on Twitter in which the minister is seen present inside the cathedral along with the Russian and Indian officials.

The Main Church of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, which only opened on June 20 this year, is a huge Orthodox Christian cathedral dedicated to the military.

The cathedral's six golden domes are dedicated to the patron saints of each branch of the Russian armed forces. The museum at the church complex features exhibitions about the history of Russia's armed forces and the Great Patriotic War.

On Thursday, Singh said he had an excellent meeting with his Russian counterpart Gen. Sergey Shoigu during which he appreciated the steadfast support provided by Russia in response to the country's defence and security needs.

He pressed for expediting supply of a number of weapons systems, ammunition and spares to India by Russia under contracts which were concluded earlier.

The two countries also finalised a major deal for manufacturing AK-47 203 rifles in India.

The AK-47 203 is the latest and most advanced version of the AK-47 rifle, which will replace the Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) 5.56x45 mm assault rifle.

The SCO comprises eight member states -- India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
