Jaipur: Days after Baba Ramdev's Patanjali launched a drug that the Yoga guru claimed is a "100 per cent cure for the novel coronavirus", new facts are emerging about the research and clinical trials undertaken at NIMS Jaipur.
Chairman of NIMS, Rajasthan, Dr BS Tomar on Friday explained how they tried this drug on Covid-19 patients and how the clinical trial was done?
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Dr Tomar said, "We had taken Ayurvedic medicines like Giloy Tulsi, Ashwagandha only from Patanjali and the trial was done on 100 patients. Trial was conducted on 100 patients at NIMS, Jaipur. The drug was tried on patients who were tested positive for Covid-19, but they were asymptomatic and few others were with mild-symptoms. As per the results, 65 patients were cured in 3 days and 100 per cent were cured in 7 days."
"Coronil was marketed as part of a corona kit, also comprising of an immunity booster nasal drop - Anu Tel and an ayurvedic remedy for cough, cold and fever - swasari. Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev said that the kit has received the license as medicine and recommended its use for the cure as well as prevention of Covid-19," he said.
"Coronil was developed by Patanjali Research Institute, Haridwar in collaboration with National Institute of Medical Science (NIMS), Jaipur but all permissions and licenses were sourced by Patanjali Ayurved Ltd," he added.
Meanwhile, the state government has banned this drug prepared by Patanjali in the state. The state Health and Family Welfare minister Raghu Sharma even said that if this drug would sell in Rajasthan, then Swami Ramdev would be seen in jail.
However, the AYUSH Ministry has distanced itself from the medicine and has asked Patanjali to stop all promotions until the claims have been verified.
