Light rains, drizzle in parts of Delhi

New Delhi: Some parts of the national capital on Saturday witnessed light rains and drizzle, the weather department said.

It said Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.2 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light rains in the city till next Wednesday.

There are chances of a thunderstorm with rainfall on Thursday, it said.

On Sunday, the temperature in Delhi will remain between 26 and 35 degrees Celsius, the weather department said.

Heavy rain warning issued for Himachal

Shimla: The Meteorological department has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rains for Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The local MeT centre forecast rains over the state till August 28, however, it issued a yellow warning for August 25 and 26.

The weather office issues colour-coded warnings to alert the public ahead of severe or hazardous weather which has the potential to cause 'damage, widespread disruption and/or danger to life'.

Yellow is the least dangerous of all the weather warnings.

The maximum temperature rose by five to six degrees Celsius in 24 hours with Una recording the highest temperature in the state at 35.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday, Shimla MeT centre director Manmohan Singh said.

The lowest temperature in the state was recorded in tribal district Lahaul-Spiti's administrative centre Keylong at 10.1 degrees Celsius as the maximum decreased by one to two notches, he added.

Sangla in Kinnaur district received 3 mm of rainfall on Saturday, he added.

Extremely heavy rainfall predicted over parts of Rajasthan

Jaipur: Rains lashed parts of Rajasthan in the last 24 hours amid the ongoing spell, the Meteorological Department here said on Saturday. 

Loharia in Banswara recorded 21 cm of rainfall followed by 19 cm in Banswara, 17cm in Bhungra of Banswara, 14 cm each in Sabla of Dungarpur and Khushalgarh of Banswara, 9 cm in Nithua of Dungarpur besides various places in East Rajasthan recording 2 to 5 cm rainfall during the period.  

From Saturday morning to evening, Chittorgarh recorded 31 mm rainfall, while Kota received 9.8 mm rain, Dabok 7 mm, Bhilwara 6 mm and Jaipur and Ajmer 0.8 mm each.  

The MeT Department has forecast extremely heavy rainfall in one or two places in Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Sirohi, Udaipur and Dungarpur districts in East Rajasthan besides heavy rainfall in parts of Jalore and Pali district in West Rajasthan in for the next 12 to 24 hours.  

Jaisalmer and Sriganganagar were recorded the hottest with 38.7 and 38.6 degrees Celsius.  Other major cities of the state recorded temperature between 30 and 38 degree Celsius.

Bihar flood situation grim, 83.62 lakh people affected

Patna: The flood situation in Bihar remained critical on Saturday as nearly 70,000 more people were affected by the calamity, raising the number of marooned people to 83,62,451 in 16 districts of the state, a Disaster Management Department bulletin said.

Flood water entered in 11 fresh panchayat areas since Friday and the number of affected panchayats is now 1,333 in 130 blocks.

Flood-related deaths remained unchanged at 27, the bulletin said.

The highest 11 casualties were registered in Darbhanga district, followed by six in Muzaffarpur, four in West Champaran and two each in Saran, Siwan and Khagaria.

Darbhanga is the worst-hit district with 20.82 lakh people affected by the deluge while Muzaffarpur has 19.69 lakh victims, the bulletin said.

Of the total six relief centres, in which 5,186 people are now staying, five are in Samastipur and one in Khagaria, it said.

Altogether 2.09 lakh flood-hit people were fed at 269 community kitchen centres on Saturday.

The bulletin said that about 5.50 lakh people have been evacuated so far by 26 teams of National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force.

The state government has transferred Rs 577.57 crore into the bank accounts of 9,62,617 flood-affected families in the state till date. Each family has been given Rs 6,000 as gratuitous relief, it said.

Meanwhile, the river Ganga is flowing above the danger level at three places in the state -- Gandhi ghat and Hathidah in Patna and Kahalgaon in Bhagalpur district, the Water Resources Department said.

The water level of the Ganga is witnessing a rising trend in Buxar, Digha, Gandhi ghat and Kahalgaon. It has remained steady at Munger and is going down at Hathidah, the department said.

The 16-flood affected districts are Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Supaul, Kishanganj, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, West Champaran, East Champaran, Khagaria, Saran, Samastipur, Siwan, Madhubani, Madhepura and Saharsa.

85 people and cattle rescued from floods in Bhopal: MP CM

Bhopal: Jawans of the Home Guards and the Madhya Pradesh Disaster Response Force on Saturday rescued 85 people and two dozen cattle who were trapped in floods in Bhopal district, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.

Incessant rains in the last 24 hours have left many areas inundated in Bhopal district as well as in the state capital.

Intense spells in some western districts, including Bhopal, Sehore and Indore since Friday, sent small rivers and nullahs into spate, according to officials.

90 pc of annual rainfall already recorded in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Gujarat has received over 90 per cent of the average annual rainfall so far, more than half of it in August alone, officials said on Saturday.

Water stock in the dams in the state has reached nearly 62 per cent of the gross storage capacity.

Against 821 mm of average annual rainfall, the state till Friday had received 754.12 mm or 90.75 per cent rains, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said.

It received 403.22 mm rainfall in August alone, it said.

Kutch has so far received 159.12 per cent of average annual rainfall, followed by Saurashtra at 121.60 per cent, south Gujarat at 83.40 per cent, east central Gujarat at 69.58 per cent and north Gujarat at 67.87 per cent.

Flood discharge in Godavari increases, reservoirs filling up due to continuous rains

Amaravati: Continuous rains in the upper catchment regions and discharge of water from upstream dams have filled the major reservoirs on river Krishna while the flood discharge in river Godavari has risen further on Saturday and several villages continue to be submerged. The renewed deluge left tens of villages in East and West Godavari districts under a sheet of water for the seventh day.

Relief camps were continuing in both the districts where over 60,000 people were sheltered, according to the State Disaster Management Authority.

The flood discharge at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowaleswaram in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh crossed 20.38 lakh cusecs and the third warning signal was continuing.

The Srisailam reservoir on river Krishna in Kurnool district, which has a gross capacity of 215.81 tmc ft at its full reservoir level (FRL), received an inflow of 4.08 lakh cusecs on Saturday afternoon, filling it to a level of 205.91 tmc ft.

As result, 4.96 lakh cusecs was being discharged downstream after power generation in the right bank powerhouse.

Nagarjuna Sagar dam received over three lakh cusecs from Srisailam and over 2.5 lakh cusecs was being let out downstream into the Dr K L Rao Sagar dam at Pulichintala.

Filled with 305.80 tmc ft of water, Nagarjuna Sagar now has a flood cushion of 6.25 tmc ft.

The Dr K L Rao Sagar dam received an inflow of 3.05 lakh cusecs while 3.79 lakh cusecs was being discharged downstream,sources in the Water Resources Department said.

The Prakasam Barrage at Vijayawada received a copious inflow of 2,18,325 cusecs, including over 1.23 lakh cusecs from Muniyeru rivulet, but only 1.18 lakh cusecs was being discharged into the Bay of Bengal, leaving a flood cushion of 0.68 tmc ft.

High flash flood risk in MP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, moderate risk in Goa, Konkan: CWC  

New Delhi: Areas of west Madhya Pradesh, east Rajasthan, adjoining areas of west Rajasthan and the Gujarat subdivision are at high risk of flash floods for the next 24 hours, and Konkan and Goa have been issued a moderate risk, a Central Water Commission (CWC) official flood forecast informed on Saturday.  

"High risk over some areas of West Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan and adjoining areas of West Rajasthan and the Gujarat subdivision. Moderate to high risk over some areas of Konkan and the Goa subdivision," the CWC tweeted.  

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) further predicted thunderstorms around the same regions.  

"Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over West Madhya Pradesh and Konkan & Goa during the next 24 hours and over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat state and Rajasthan during next 2-3 days," the IMD tweeted on Saturday.

Delhi: Water level rises in Yamuna river following rains over past several days

New Delhi: The water level of the Yamuna river in Delhi rose on Saturday following heavy rainfall in the region for the past several days. The national capital and the neighbouring cities received heavy rainfall over the past few days leading to waterlogging and traffic jams in several areas. 

The rains were accompanied by a cool breeze bringing down the temperature by several notches. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has predicted a thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain in parts of Delhi during the next two hours. 

"Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and nearby isolated places of Delhi (Mehrauli, Seemapuri, Shahdara), Hindon AF, Bulandshahar, Hodal during next 2 hours," tweeted the IMD. (ANI)

Waterlogging disrupts normal life in Bengal's East Midnapore 

High tides in Rupnarayan river has led to severe waterlogging in several villages in the Ramnagar block in East Midnapore, disrupting normal lives of people.

As per the locals, the water has entered their homes and they have to shift to other places due to flood-like situation in their area.

The locals here are facing a lot of difficulties and the government is also not helping much, a local said while speaking to media on Friday.

"We are facing trouble and the government is not providing any help. My house got damaged and now we are forced to stay outside. This happened in 2007 and again happened this year. People have to commute through knee-to-waist deep water," said Chandan Maity, a local.

High tides of 4.67 metres is expected in Mumbai at 2:14 pm on Saturday, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

"High tides of 4.67 metres expected in Mumbai at 2:14 pm today. Across the city, generally cloudy sky expected with moderate rain; heavy rainfall at isolated places," the BMC said.

Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department (IMD) provided rainfall data for Mumbai and suburban areas.

263 mm rainfall recorded at Indore: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported heavy rainfall observations in several parts of west Madhya Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, with the highest rainfall recorded in Indore at 263 mm.
"Heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls have been reported in west Madhya Pradesh. 104 mm rainfall was recorded in Dhar, 263 mm in Indore at 211 in Bhopal, and 93 mm in Khandwa from 8:30 am yesterday to 8:30 am today," the IMD said.

Krishna: Floodwater is gradually increasing in Munneru stream in Krishna district and the water level has reached 13.5 feet at Polampalli dam due to heavy rains.

Floodwater accumulated for more than one feet height within one hour on Friday morning. The stream is overflowing near the Lingala bridge.

At Penuganchiprolu also, floodwater is overflowing above the bridge. Officials have already issued orders that people of low lying areas should be very careful.

In Penuganchiprolu, floodwater entered the temple of Goddess Lakshmi Tirupatamma.

Rooms for the accommodation of devotees and other constructions in the temple premises are partially submerged.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated plcaes in coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next few days.

Waterlogging disrupts normal life in Bengal's East Midnapore 

High tides in Rupnarayan river has led to severe waterlogging in several villages in the Ramnagar block in East Midnapore, disrupting normal lives of people.

As per the locals, the water has entered their homes and they have to shift to other places due to flood-like situation in their area.

The locals here are facing a lot of difficulties and the government is also not helping much, a local said while speaking to media on Friday.

"We are facing trouble and the government is not providing any help. My house got damaged and now we are forced to stay outside. This happened in 2007 and again happened this year. People have to commute through knee-to-waist deep water," said Chandan Maity, a local.

High tides of 4.67 metres is expected in Mumbai at 2:14 pm on Saturday, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

"High tides of 4.67 metres expected in Mumbai at 2:14 pm today. Across the city, generally cloudy sky expected with moderate rain; heavy rainfall at isolated places," the BMC said.

Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department (IMD) provided rainfall data for Mumbai and suburban areas.

"AWS/ARG rainfall data (in mm) for Mumbai city and suburban (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of today): Bandra-70; Bhayander-82; Dahisar-103; Mira Road-78; Santacruz-59 and Thane-82. Rainfall (in mm) from IMD observatories: Santacruz-65 and Colaba-27," the weather department tweeted.

263 mm rainfall recorded at Indore: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported heavy rainfall observations in several parts of west Madhya Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, with the highest rainfall recorded in Indore at 263 mm.
"Heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls have been reported in west Madhya Pradesh. 104 mm rainfall was recorded in Dhar, 263 mm in Indore at 211 in Bhopal, and 93 mm in Khandwa from 8:30 am yesterday to 8:30 am today," the IMD said.

Krishna: Floodwater is gradually increasing in Munneru stream in Krishna district and the water level has reached 13.5 feet at Polampalli dam due to heavy rains.

Floodwater accumulated for more than one feet height within one hour on Friday morning. The stream is overflowing near the Lingala bridge.

At Penuganchiprolu also, floodwater is overflowing above the bridge. Officials have already issued orders that people of low lying areas should be very careful.

In Penuganchiprolu, floodwater entered the temple of Goddess Lakshmi Tirupatamma.

Rooms for the accommodation of devotees and other constructions in the temple premises are partially submerged.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated plcaes in coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next few days.
