Hyderabad: In yet another ghastly accident of people being crushed under trains, 16 migrant workers were killed after coming under a goods train in Aurangabad district on Friday.
Several train mishaps have been reported in our country and these remain a serious challenge for the Railway Ministry.
Here is a list of the grim accidents happened in India when people were mowed down by train:
- Vizianagaram (AP) train accident: 2013
Ten people were crushed under speeding train near Vizianagaram (Andhra Pradesh). Some passengers of Bokaro Express pulled chain as rumours spread that a compartment had caught fire and jumped out on the tracks. As it was dark, they couldn't see another oncoming train on adjacent track and were run over.
- Dharmara ghat accident: 2013
A speeding express train ran over a group of devotees killing 37 people at Dharmara ghat station in Bihar's Khagaria district.
- Kaimur train mishap (Bihar): 2018
Five persons were run over by a speeding train when they were trying to cross the rail tracks and did not see an express train coming in speed on the other track.
Hardoi train incident (UP): 2018
Four railway maintenance workers were run over and killed by a train in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district. They were repairing the railway tracks when the accident took place.
- Amritsar train tragedy (Punjab): 2018
At least 62 people were killed and 72 injured in a ghastly incident which occurred when a crowd was watching the burning of Ravan effigy on Dussehra. They were standing on tracks when suddenly a train arrived and ran over them.
- Etawah train accident (UP): 2019
At least four people were killed and six others injured after they got hit by the Rajdhani Express near Balrai Railway Station close to Etawah.
