New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi seemed to be firm on his decision to step down as Congress president. Several party leaders including Priyanka Gandhi have been trying to convince him to take back his resignation.
Stunned by the massive defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi has also refused to meet party leaders. He reprimanded three senior party leaders--former union minister P Chidambaram, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot. He said that they placed their sons ahead of party interest.
According to sources, the reason for the resentment inside the party is that Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot put their efforts to get tickets for their sons and planning for their victory.
P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram was elected from Tamil Nadu and Kamal Nath's son Nakul Nath was elected from Bhopal. However, Ashok Gehlot's son Vaibhav Gehlot lost the polls.
The Congress has secured 52 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, just eight seats more than its tally in 2014.
