New Delhi: Dozens of women and students came to streets of Delhi, at Jantar Mantar, to protest against the rape and murder case of Hyderabad veterinarian, on Monday, demanding a reply from the Government and instant death penalty to the accused of this crime.
Students were seen carrying placards during their peaceful protest, one of which reads "it is not the bruise on the body that hurts, it is the wound of the heart and the scars of the mind." Many of them were also wearing black bands on their forehead as a sign of protest.
While questioning the government for not taking any decision till now, a student said, "Our Prime Minister calls himself a Chowkidar, still he is not able to protect his own country."
Showing rage over the incident, protesters demanded instant death penalty to the accused, to give a message to the society against such crimes. "We still feel fearful to send our daughters outside the home at night. The government uses the slogan, 'beti bachao, beti padhao'. Is this the way to save daughters of our country? Those who have committed this crime, should be given the death penalty instantly," said one of the protesters.
While supporting the protest, Congress party demanded fast-track courts to hear this matter and 'severe punishments' to the accused. While speaking to the media, Haryana PCC chief Kumari Shelja said, "For such crimes, fast-track courts should be set up and severe punishments should be given to the accused so that a message could be sent to the society over such crimes."
"Secondly, social media also plays a very crucial role in such crimes. Pornography should be made punishable because of which such crimes are increasing in our society," she added.
Congress Rajyasabha MP, PL Punia said, "All the political parties had a discussion over this matter in both the houses today, and demanded the government to set up fast track Court and to give punishment to the accused of this crime as soon as possible."
