Punjab BJP unit hold 3-hours meet to discuss various issues

Farmer and their organisations have been protesting against the three farm acts passed by the Central government over the apprehension that they would be left at the mercy of corporates. The Punjab Legislative Assembly had unanimously passed four Bills to negate the Centre’s three contentious farm laws.

Chandigarh: Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) high command on Thursday conducted a three-hour-long meeting of core committee team members to discuss the on-going issues of the state. The ongoing farmers protest, Dalit issues, alleged scholarship scam was discussed in the meeting.

After the meeting ended, BJP state president Ashwini Sharma said that Captain Amarinder Singh's government in the state is failing on every front whether it is the issue of Dalits or the safety of women. Every day rapes are happening and Dalits are harassed.

On the issue of farmers, Ashwini Sharma said that these laws have been passed for the benefit of farmers and the Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to explain this to them.

Apart from Ashwini Sharma, former minister Vijay Sampla, Punjab BJP senior leader Tarun Chugh were also present in the meeting that was held in the presence of BJP president JP Nadda.

Earlier, the Former Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla told ETV Bharat, "The Punjab BJP unit will meet today to discuss various issues. Issues pertaining to the party will also be discussed. The meeting will be attended by Punjab BJP Chief Ashwini Sharma, National Secy Tarun Chuggh and other prominent leaders.

Meanwhile, BJP president JP Nadda urged the leaders of his party in Punjab to reach out to rural areas in order to make the saffron party “number one” in the state.

“We need to resolve to make the BJP the number one party in Punjab, recognise our strength, get together with people sharing our ideologies and go to the rural areas,” he said.

The farmers in Punjab have started afresh morcha against the storage house of a corporate firm in Ferozepur. Railways have suspended goods trains services in Punjab due to the ongoing protests despite farmers easing the track blockade for freight services.

Farmer and their organisations have been protesting against the three farm acts passed by the Central government over the apprehension that they would be left at the mercy of corporates. Apart from the farm acts, the scholarship scam in which money was allegedly misappropriated by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot will also be discussed. The post-Matric scholarship for Scheduled Castes students is a Government of India scheme under which Dalit students engaged in higher studies are reimbursed their fees and given a maintenance allowance.

Due to the ongoing altercations, the Shiromani Akali Dal left BJP-led alliance in Punjab recently, after which the saffron party is seen more active in the state.
