The team is playing in Pakistan after nearly 10 years since it was attacked in 2009. Meanwhile, spectators were also frisked heavily with security personnel keeping a close eye on the prevailing situation.
While sharing a video by anonymous on twitter Gautam Gambhir wrote, “Itna Kashmir kiya ke Karachi bhool gaye.” Two people in the video were heard mocking the level of security that has been deployed for the Sri Lanka series. Over 20 vehicles were deployed for the Sri Lankan team as they were heading to the National Stadium in Karachi for the second ODI on Monday.
Besides, main roads leading to team hotels were also designated for team buses and normal traffic remains diverted on match days.
Sri Lankan cricket team was attacked by armed gunmen near the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on March 3, 2009. Several Sri Lankan players, including the then captain Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, were injured in the attack. The terror strike led to the cancellation of the tour and no international cricket match took place in Pakistan for the next eight years.
