Hazaribagh (Jharkhand): In the face of utter poverty and desperation to plough his farmland, a farmer from Uchhadhana village in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district has built a low-cost ploughing machine by using an old scooter and some iron pieces for tilling his agriculture fields.

The innovative machine built by Mahesh Karmali costs between Rs. 10,000 and Rs.12,000, making it cheaper than traditional ploughing techniques using bullocks and modern machines such as tractors.

"My poverty led me to build this machine. I don't have cows or bullocks to till my land, but I had to plough it in order to survive. It feels good to have invented this machine. It's unbelievable that I managed to build this machine despite poverty," said Karmali.

An elated Karmali added, "now that I have this machine with me I can cultivate my land whenever I want."

The machine has two wheels with a digger attached, besides a handle of a scooter through which the machine can be guided through the farmland.

Poverty and adversity of nature have forced many families in the village to sell their bullocks. In fact, most of the farmers are unable to bear the maintenance cost of a tractor or even bullocks, for that matter.

But, the invention of this affordable tilling machine comes as a ray of hope for the farmers of the village.

"The farmers who cannot afford to buy a tractor or bullocks to till their farmland can make use of this cost-effective machine. The government can also take the responsibility to provide these machines to the farmers. Mahesh Karmali has done a wonderful thing for all the farmers, " said a farmer from Uchhadhana.

Meanwhile, Karmali's invention is inviting admirers from the nearby villages and the state, who are flocking the quaint little village to watch the unique machine at work.
