New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Wednesday take part in the 15th India-European Union (EU) summit, which will be held via video conference.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold extensive talks with President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on a range of issues in the summit, EU officials had earlier said.
In the summit, the two sides are also expected to delve into finding a way forward to resume talks on the long-pending free trade agreement which is known as EU-India Broad-based Trade and Investment Agreement (BTIA).
The leaders are expected to reiterate their determination to promote effective multilateralism and a rules-based multilateral order, with the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) at its core, the officials had said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs had earlier informed that the summit will review India-EU cooperation covering political and security relations, trade and investment and economic cooperation.
The summit is also expected to discuss developments around the COVID-19 pandemic and contemporary global matters of interest to both sides.
The 14th India-EU Summit was held on October 6, 2017 in Delhi.
Prime Minister Modi was scheduled to visit Brussels in March for the summit. But his visit was cancelled in view of coronavirus outbreak.
The 27-nation EU is a strategically important region for India. The EU as a whole was India's largest trading partner in 2018.
India's bilateral trade with the EU in 2018-19 stood at USD 115.6 billion with exports valued at USD 57.17 billion and imports worth USD 58.42 billion.
