Intro:New Delhi: As the retail inflation has rose to 7.35 percent in December, the highest since July 2014, Congress accused the Modi government for giving two "deceptions" to the country- inflation and unemployment, demanding the Prime Minister to come forward and call a meeting of all opposition parties to lay down a roadmap of next 30 days, targeting to bring down the rising inflation.

Body:While addressing the media, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewal said, "Retail and food inflation is eating into the budget of the common man but is the Prime Minister even concerned about the millions of Indians who now have to cut down on their food and nutrition?"

Congress also accused Modi government for indulging in politics of hatred and division and asked him to focus on the development of the country.

"In July 2019, inflation was 3.5%, August 3.8%, September 4%, October 4.62 %, November 5.5%, December 7.35% and now it is touching 8%, but why PM is silent? India's nutrition, food and food value are under a dire threat," he further added.

Taking a jibe at the PM, Surjewala said, "We sincerely hope that the PM who came to power on the promise to fight inflation is the same as the PM who is on an unprecedented 'maun vrat' on these matters."

As per the official data, retail inflation rose to about a five and half year high of 7.35 percent in December, 2019, surpassing the RBI's comfort level, mainly due to spiralling prices of vegetables which have been selling at costlier rates.

Congress also slammed the government over increasing unemployment rate in the country. Targeting the PM, Surjewala said, "If the Prime Minister is not able to provide jobs and employment opportunities to the youth of his country, he is not worthy of his position."

Conclusion:Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also accused the government, in her tweet, for picking pockets of the common man and also taking away their livelihoods.
