New Delhi: Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday inducted the Commandos for Railway Safety (CORAS).
With an aim to guard the passengers and goods on the trains in the critical areas of the country, these Commando units will be deployed in the Naxal prone areas, Jammu and Kashmir, and the North Eastern states of India.
While addressing the event, Goyal said, "These CORAS commandos will be posted in LWE affected areas, northeastern region and Jammu and Kashmir where providing security to the passengers and the railway network is of utmost priority.
"A new state-of-the-art commando training centre for RPF will be started in Jagadhri (in Haryana) which will have access to latest technology and equipment."
These Commandos are trained for any situation pertaining to damage, disturbance, destruction of train of operations, hostages and disaster situations in railway areas. CORAS will be headed by the Director General of RPF, Arun Kumar, and is armed with special uniforms with bullet proof jackets, helmets and weapons.
