New Delhi: The Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry is gearing up for establishing 5000 Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants across India. The top sources with the ministry claim this project will not only attract revenues and it would also generate revenue of thousands of youths.

The CBS project will be implemented under the flagship program Atma Nirbhar Bharat to encourage green renewable energy usage.

“Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) was the scheme announced by the centre to bring out green renewable energy resources. With SATAT, the mass establishment of 5000 CBG plants will be done within 2023,” the official added.

On June 23rd, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had a video conference meeting with the Tamil Nadu CM. During the meeting, the Union Minister and the TN CM Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with IOCL Executive Director P Jayadevan had inaugurated a CBG plant in Namakkal of Tamil Nadu.

“The Union Government is eyeing to produce 15 million metric tonnes of compressed biogas from the proposed 5000 plants within the next three years,” the officer added.

“If this CBG plants start functioning, it will reduce pollution, generate more revenue. Also, this will ensure jobs for jobless youths. Certainly, the fuel cost for commercial vehicles would come down. If we take the Namakkal plant, they are selling one kg of CBG for Rs.54.64. A car can travel around 25 kilometers with one kg of CBG. It means the owner would spend below Rs. 3 for one kilometre. However, in Petrol and Diesel, it is not the case,” the Petroleum ministry officer added.

Apart from vehicles, CBG will also be used for industry appliances across the country.
