Hyderabad: In a shocking move, 11 MLAs of the ruling coalition Janata Dal (Secular) and the Congress government in Karnataka submitted their resignation at the Speaker's office Saturday.
The MLAs who were seen at the Speaker's office include, Ramesh Jarkiholi (Gokak), Pratap Gowda Patil (Maski), Shivram Hebbar (Yellapur), Mahesh Kumathalli (Athani), B C Patil (Hirekerur), Byratibasavaraj (K R Puram), S T Soma Shekar (Yashwanthpur) and Ramalinga reddy (BTM Layout) of the Congress.
The development comes days after two Congress legislators Anand Singh and Ramesh Jarkiholi sent in their resignation to the Speaker.
On the ongoing political developments in Karnataka, BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao told ETV Bharat, "The Congress-JD(S) coalition has been rejected by the people of Karnataka. Despite their coalition in the Lok Sabha polls, BJP has won a massive mandate. It clearly shows the mood of the people. The MLAs certainly seem to be facing the brunt of public anger against the coalition."
"People of Karnataka are sick of this coalition. We have been noticing the developments. They finally realised that chaos had been created in the state. Not just BJP but even the people of Karnataka will heave a sigh of relief. For the BJP, we have been looking at what has been going on for quite sometime now, " he added.
Earlier, the Congress accused the BJP of trying to bring down its coalition government in Karnataka by "buying" MLAs.
However, the BJP rejected the allegation and said the "feud" between the ruling allies is behind the fresh political instability.
