New Delhi: Millions of Indians woke up scratching their heads this morning, as their social media walls were flooded with memes of a yellow JCB excavator.
Yes, you read that right! For the past 24 hours, hashtags like #JCBKiKhudayi and #JCBMemes have been trending across all social media platforms.
Even as the country was still recovering from the meme deluge post the Lok Sabha elections and the Game of Thrones finale, an unassuming British excavator seemingly took India by storm.
But how did it all start?
Like all social media phenomena, though it is not completely clear where the influx of memes started, one of the earliest posts pointed towards how videos of JCB excavators garnered an unbelievably high number of views.

JCB khudayi jokes are so subtle yet so funny. Apparently the jokes are about how jobless are people to watch JCB digging videos on YouTube with these videos getting millions of views 😁 pic.twitter.com/AGaIWl04kg

And what exactly is JCB?
J.C. Bamford Excavators Ltd or JCB, is a British multinational company which manufactures equipment for construction, agriculture, waste handling and demolition.
However, owing to the immense popularity of the company in India, the word JCB is often used interchangeably for excavators, just like in the case of 'Xerox' or 'Jacuzzi'.
