New Delhi: Stressing that China-Pakistan have been close allies and Chinese President Xi Jinping visiting India later this week would not change much for any of the countries, an expert opined.
Professor Harsh Pant of the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), talking to the ETV Bharat here, said not much could be expected from the proposed informal summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
He further added that China has remained one of the supporters of Pakistan and said that Pakistan and China see the Kashmir issue through a similar length.
"Expectations are not very high. China has signalled its priorities and it's well understood in New Delhi," he said.
Touching upon Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's visit to China before Jinping arrives in India, the professor said: "It was to make sure that they (Pakistan) remain relevant".
As the statement by Chinese spokesperson wherein it was mentioned that Kashmir issue would not be on the agenda when Chinese President meets Indian Prime Minister.
"They have been together they are allies but I don't see a potential change (in the relationship)," he added.
Jinping’s visit to India is scheduled to begin in Mamallapuram near Chennai on October 11. It will be his second informal summit with Modi.
