Kullu: Residents of Maror were forced to carry an ailing man on a chair to hospital, as the village is deprived of public transport.
The villager, who sustained severe leg injuries, was ferried to Sange hospital for treatment by the locals.
People of the villages falling under the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) still lack basic facilities, be it road connectivity, education, health or transport facilities. Locals of the villages have sought connectivity and amenities in the region from the government.
Mahesh Sharma, Chairman of Sanj Samyukta Sangharsh Samiti, said, "Most of the villages lack access to healthcare. Due to the long distance from the road, patients have to be carried on back. A collective demand has been put forward to open a dispensary."
"If our demands are not met by state govt or district authority, then our volunteers will protest and come out on roads," he asserted.
"Due to the frequent heavy rainfall in Kullu and nearby villages, the roads and highways are blocked. Villagers have stressed that roads should be repaired so that they can carry ration and other goods from the markets to their homes," he added.

It may be recalled that last week incessant rainfall triggered landslides in Shakti Marod village in Niharni following which the road and transport connectivity has been badly disrupted and has thrown normal life out of gear.
"Due to lack of basic facilities, our life is pathetic. Every day, we face a lot of difficulties and we appeal to the government to provide us with basic necessities. A few years back, an NGO had taken up the project to set up a solar panel that can powerhouses but it is not a permanent solution."
The concerned authorities, being aware of the peoples' grievances, have taken up the matter with the state govt.
