Gaya: Officials of National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested an alleged arms trafficker from Bihar's Gaya district in connection with the theft of AK-47 rifles from Madhya Pradesh.
The accused Rajiv Ranjan Singh is an elected panchayat head from Bihar's Gaya district and has been arrested in connection with the theft of weapon parts from Indian Ordnance Factory in Jabalpur.
NIA officials said that Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Chuunu Singh has charges of theft and illegal smuggling of weapon parts.
Police officer Rakesh Kumar said, "We received the information through NIA's official Twitter that one person has been arrested on charges of theft of AK-47 rifles."
NIA sleuths said that the accused was an alleged kingpin in the nexus which was involved in the illegal trade of weapons.
Sources said that a case was filed in 2018 pertaining to the recovery of three AK 47 rifles under the jurisdiction of Muffasil police station limits and it was also alleged that former Indian soldiers were also involved in the case.
A total of 13 people have been charge-sheeted in the case so far and the investigation is still underway.
