New Delhi: Following the widespread violence in Delhi over the ammended Citizenship Law which has left 42 dead and more than 300 injured, situation in the national capital is assuming normalcy. Heavy police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at many places after Home Minister Amit Shah had a meeting with senior officers of the Delhi Police to review the situation.
Police officials have said that situation is under control now.
According to Home Ministry, no major incident has been reported from the riot-affected north-east Delhi in the past 72 hours. Atleast 123 FIRs have been registered and 25 weapons have been recovered by the Delhi Police. Along with the Delhi Police, CRPF, SSB and CISF personnel have been deployed with flag marches being carried out in violence prone areas like Chandbagh and Shivpuri to instill confidence among the masses.
Police forces are also urging residents to not pay attention to rumours on social media and report them to the police. Sources, meanwhile, said the Delhi government is considering to issue a WhatsApp number on which people can complain about hate messages being circulated on the instant messaging app. They said the government will make an appeal to people to not forward any such message because forwarding any material which causes enmity amongst communities is a crime. The move is aimed at dealing with rumours on social media.

Considering the improvement in the situation, the Home Ministry has removed ban on huge-gatherings in violence affected areas. The East Delhi Municipal Corporation has already taken steps to clean the streets and repair damaged public properties. Movement of traffic on the highway and connecting roads is also returning to normalcy.
The Delhi Police has separately set up two SITs for investigation. The Delhi Police has set up helplines 22829334 and 22829335 for round-the-clock assistance. Delhi Police has started holding peace committee meetings across Delhi to normalise situation and improve inter-community harmony which will continue till situation normalises.
