New Delhi: The Delhi govt is planning a makeshift COVID-19 hospital with 10,000 beds in Chhatarpur to prepare for a projected surge in cases in the city. The planned Covid-19 facility will come up at the south Delhi campus of spiritual organisation Radha Soami Satsang Beas.
Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Sunday inspected Radha Soami Satsang Beas campus in Chhattarpur area designated for setting up a 10,000-bed makeshift hospital for COVID-19 patients.
During the visit, officers of Radha Swami Satsang Vyas along with local District Magistrate BM Mishra and SDM Sonalika Jeevani of Mehrauli were also present. LG held talks with the concerned officials regarding the arrangement and how the courtyard will be used for coronavirus patients.
In an interaction with ETV Bharat, SDM Sonalika Jeevani said, "Around 10,000 are being arranged in the premises of Radha Soami Satsang Beas which will be 1,700 feet long and 700 feet wide. We are making all the necessary arrangements and efforts are on to make it operational within next fifteen days.

Jeevika said, "Treatment of patients here, medical staff will be provided by the Health Department of Delhi Government. It will be ensured that most of the beds will be oxygenated and ventilators will be present without fail. The facility will also have coolers considering the temperature of Delhi with lights and fans.
The spiritual organisation gave its approval for the makeshift hospital few days ago. The city has a total 9,647 dedicated Covid-19 beds in state-run, central and private hospitals. Of these, 5,402 are occupied.
The decision comes after the state govt estimated that coronavirus capital in the national capital are likely to cross five lakh mark by the end of July. By then, around one lakh beds would be required for Covid-19 patients.
At present, total active COVID-19 cases in Delhi stands at 22,212 and the death toll is pegged at 1214. A total of 13,398 patients have been cured and discharged. (With inputs from PTI)
